Where You Go for your Euros
To give a snapshot of this tour, you’ll first arrive in Trier to visit the Kaiserthermen, a former Roman bathhouse from the 4th century, as well as the 2nd century Roman city gate and the oldest defensive structure in Germany, Porta Nigra.
Upon your Fahrrad (bicycle) the next day, you’ll cycle 26 miles to Trittenheim where guests will have the chance to tour a family winery and enjoy wine and bread tastings. The third day will take bicyclists 22 miles to Neumagen-Drohn, the oldest wine village in Germany, eventually ending the day’s trek in Zeltingen.
Following that day, it’s another 22 miles from Zeltingen to Zell, with an option of a scenic boat tour on the Moselle in between to rest those pedal-weary legs. One day and 29 miles later, you’ll find yourself cycling past the 11th century Reichsburg castle and have the chance to taste more delicious local wines and informative wine tours. From Treis-Karden, the previous day’s destination, it’s onward to Koblenz, from which you’ll follow the Rhine bikeway to the Marksburg castle, remarkable for being the only hill castle on the Rhine that has never been destroyed and has withstood the elements and human battles since the 12th century. A boat trip from Koblenz to Braubach is also an option for this leg of the journey.
Guests who wish to remain in Koblenz to do a little more exploring around the beautiful Rhine may do so and plan accordingly in advance. The final day of your trip includes a breakfast to celebrate the previous days’ 31-mile-long cycle to Braubach, which will serve as the itinerary’ departure point.
Bike rentals are priced at approximately $70 per person and accommodation prices for the guided and self-guided tours are based on double occupancy, per person. Transfers back to Trier are available for approximately $56. The nearest Flughafen (airport) is located in Luxembourg, while others include Frankfurt am Main and Frankfurt am Hahn. To reach Trier, guests can plan their own transportation by taking the German railway from their airport location to the Trier station or by renting a vehicle.
There's more...
There are many other bike tour options throughout Europe and they are really well priced -- just a great option for active families with older kids and teens. Some of our favorite itineraries include the Danube Family Tour, Austria's Tuscany and Heidelberg-Strasbourg tours.
