If you’re planning on traveling to Germany, 2009 is the year to go and take the whole family. The Hotel de Rome in Berlin has put together some great packages in honor of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

With their Fall of the Wall package, you’ll learn and experience the history of Berlin in style. You’ll get a 2N stay in a deluxe room or junior suite, daily breakfast buffet, entrance to the Wall Museum at Checkpoint Charlie, a welcome gift with a piece of the wall, cocktails at Bebel Bar, free use of their Spa de Rome, and use of their DVD player along with two fine films set in Berlin: “The Life of Others” and “Goodbye Lenin.”

Your family can also take advantage of a complimentary four-hour bike tour with a private guide who will show you pieces from the Wall’s history like vestiges of the Wall, derelict watchtowers, and former border crossings. Prices for teh two-night offer start at €730 for a deluxe room, and €1110 for a junior suite; this package is available throughout 2009.

For another family-friendly deal, you can also book their Family Excursion to Berlin package where the focus is on your kids and teens. If you book a deluxe room or junior suite, you get a second room for free, so you can give your kids their own room.

Also, teens over 14 will get a special opportunity to explore their own interests when they talk to the Hotel concierge. The concierge will arrange for your teen to experience Berlin with local seniors from the John F. Kennedy international school. Some of the activities your teen might get to do -- go on a clubbing tour of some of Berlin’s hip and trendy clubs, design their own milkberlin bag, go on a guided Street Art Tour where they can learn how to become a graffiti artists, go on Berlin Underground tour through old bunkers used through WWII, get DJ lessons with a leading club owner, or take a guided bike tour along the former trail of the Berlin Wall.

For your younger children, this package also has junior bath time accessories like children’s bathrobe, slippers, etc, a kid’s guide to Berlin and games to borrow from the concierge, a Splash hour in the pool from 10am to 11am under parental supervision, a special kids menu for kids 6 to 12 with a 50% reduction on food and beverages, and for kids under 6, free food and beverages.

Additional perks include breakfast buffet for the whole family, welcome amenities including an invitation to the kitchen for a cookie-baking lesson or to the bar for a cocktail mixing lesson, and iPod docking stations and DVD player to use during your stay. The Hotel de Rome is located on Bebelplatz, off Unter den Linden, and was constructed in 1889 as the headquarters of the Dresdner Bank. It became the official State Bank of the GDR under the Soviet occupation. Now it has 146 large bedrooms with bathrooms that have a separate walk-in shower and mosaic marble detailing above double ended baths. Their Spa has a sauna, steam, relaxation area, and a fully equipped gym. Also, the original bank vault has now become a 20-meter swimming pool.
