Q - Sheryl G. of Hallandale Beach, FL asks: Our family of 2 adults and two kids (ages 6 and 13) will fly to San Francisco and spend a few days there. Then, we are planning to drive south to Los Angeles and are looking for suggestions/help with the trip. We are also considering the possibility of a visiting Yosemite.

A - The drive along the Pacific coast is one of the most scenic in the country.  Please read FTF for our story entitled "San Francisco to Los Angeles Overland," which lays out the trip you are planning.  If you let us know where you are going to break for the nights, we can make some hotel suggestions.  Also, if you search the site for "San Francisco" and "Los Angeles" you will find several stories about what to see and do in these cities and environs.

As this route goes straight down the coast, it does not include Yosemite, which is near the Nevada border.  If you want to include this, we could send you some routing suggestions to take you on a loop from San Franciso to Yosemite and back to the San Jose area, where you can pick up the coast road.  If you choose this option, you can explore California "gold country" which you can familiarize yourself with in our story titled "You'll Strike Gold in Northern California."
