The National Geographic Beginners World Atlas is a great way to start younger children on map skills. Introductory sections explain what maps are, how they make the round world flat, and the differences between the physical and political world. This colorful atlas also comes with a pronunciation guide for newly learned place names.  There is some text, although it is simple and fact-filled.

This newly updated edition is organized by continent.  Each section begins with a native child welcoming your child reader and explaining what makes the region unique.  Your kids will learn everything from what languages are spoken around the globe to where the famous landmarks are located.
