We love the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for suggesting a gift "Safety Basket" for loved ones who use scooters, bikes, skateboards, rollerblades or broomsticks (only kidding!)

The CPSC's idea is to use a newly purchased helmet as the receptacle for little toys, candy and CSPC safety brochures, which can be printed from the CPSC's website or requested by mail from the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Washington, DC 20207. If you have a helmet already, you can make your own "basket" for free with informative brochures, and add pads, reflectors and some small toys that will delight toddlers and kids ages 3+.

If you're purchasing your first children's helmet, we love the new Bell Lil' Bell Shell Toddler/Kids Helmet, which is made with an EPS foam liner adhered to a colorful, molded outer shell so that fussy kids can't pull the lining apart. Parents will appreciate the pinchguard buckle specifically designed to prevent kids from pinching their chins, and the easily adjustable straps around the ears, which have locking levers.

The colorful shell -- pick from yellow, blue or red with various nature theme stick-ons -- has four air vents to keep the heat away.

Now you don't have to worry about what to get your little one for their next birthday nor do you have to worry about their safety when they are on their bike or scooter.
