Can't I choose my own lane?

I thought these tsa lanes were supposed to be self selecting. This am at phx term 4 our family of 3 got chewed out by tsa for choosing the green lane, which was by FAR the shortest. "this lane is supposed to be for ppl with strollers and toddlers" tsa said. I was like "oh really?" my son is 10. We fly all the time but I don't see why I mayn't take the green if it's shortest, what do others think?

so you guys took the blue lane? ive seen they only allow families with toddlers or old folks on strollers for the green lane..what i want is to widen and add more officers to the casual lane
