Hi! I’m new to Family Travel Forum and wanted to share some info about the Big Apple Circus with you all. I messaged the admin through the “contract us” page but he/she never got back to me, I hope it’s ok that I’m posting this, let me know!

I’m working with the Big Apple Circus to get the word out about their newest show – Bello is Back! The Big Top just opened up last week at Lincoln Center in NYC, and will be there until January 18 when they hit the road to visit other east coast cities. Besides putting on a really awesome, fun-filled show… what’s really cool about the Big Apple Circus is that they’re a not-for-profit organization, committed to bringing joy and laughter to the communities around them.

If you wanna know more about the Big Apple Circus, check them out on Facebook (search: big apple circus) and Twitter (@bigapple_circus).

I’d love to hear some of your favorite circus memories! When was the first time you went to the circus? The first time you took your kids? Favorite act?

If you’re thinking about going to see the Big Apple Circus this year let me know! :)

Hi TwoTwo,

I was there with my family for Thanksgiving a few years back, and it was really nice. I can't remember specific restaurants because most of the meals over that weekend were special buffets, set up for the holiday. All the food was great and it was a pretty lavish spread.

The weather then was very nice during the day and cool at night, we didn't swim but our son played outdoors a lot. I remember a nice playground and sandy area by the pool. Texas weather is very changeable and you may encounter really warm days. The staff had certain activities planned, I think we sat by a fireplace and there was storytelling, maybe cookie making in the club too.

The ground floor rooms may be easier if you have older relatives along, at least for them to go in and out. I prefer higher floor rooms because they are quieter (although it's really quiet here) and the views over the grounds to the hills was beautiful. I don't know if there is a size difference. As for checking in early, well, the Hyatt staff was really nice. They seemed to want to help us and our grandparents out with anything we asked.

If you go, enjoy it and let me know what you think.

Here's a story on familytravelforum that I think is helpful:

We have often used a housesitter but now have switched to a kennel. The housesitters varied a bit in quality and many of them worked full time so the dog was alone most of the day. One housesitter's family had a medical emergency and she had to leave; another one brought her dog that got to sleep in our bed (which are dog would have loved to do but it was forbidden!). When our most recent dog was new she ran away from a housesitter - so being in her new home wasn't a comfort.

Now we take our dog to a kennel, but we checked a number of different kennels first. The one we selected has a doggy daycare component so it's really lively with lots of dogs in and out that come to play and socialize. And our dog gets to hang out with them during the day and then is in her individual kennel at night. Our vet wanted us to use their kennel but when we checked it out there were very few dogs there and it looked too lonely.

So my advice is to research all the kennels in your area and find the best one you can find. The dog will eventually get used to it. And you will know that your dog is safe and cared for no matter what.

Good point - you can always cash your traveler's checks when you arrive at the airport. But that might mean you'll be carrying a fair amount of cash. You can also use your atm card at airports just as easily. In the old days it was easy to use traveler's checks to pay for a restaurant meal, hotel room or purchases. Not so anymore as fewer and fewer establishments accept them - some younger workers have never seen them before and don't recognize them. If you carry traveler's checks, be prepared to cash them at a bank or airport.
