Family Travel Forum: All you need to know before you go
Beaverkill Valley Inn, New York

We went to a wonderful place over Thanksgiving- it's really become our favorite place to go as a family and no one seems to know about it. It's the Beaverkill Valley Inn (845/439-4844) in Lew Beach, upstate New York.

It was once the 2,400-acre Laurence Rockefeller estate where he built a beautiful, simple old hunting lodge. The rooms are very nice and comfortable, Stu and I  enjoy that. The food is excellent and there's much or nothing to do depending solely upon your mood. You can cross country ski, skate and hike in the winter, or play tennis, canoe, trout fish or bike ride in nice weather. The kids (Eric, 6, and Anna , 9 mos.) could go anywhere on the property utilizing well-marked trails, but we spent the weekend in a beautiful indoor pool with no one else around except a help-your-self soda fountain usually found in soda shops! They're really friendly to families and we always have a good time there.

Don't tell anyone about it, they don't advertise heavily and don't seem to want a lot of crowds.
