Greetings Fellow Travelers,
Global warming, carbon footprint, living green; we hear these terms everywhere. Today, I had a glimpse of their impact at an event sponsored by the San Diego Zoo for "Polar Bear Plunge" to open on March 26th. We learned that animals are more sensitive to their environment, and that due to the melting of the ice caps, the diminishing solid ice prevents polar bears from hunting for food, endangering their survival.
While most families will never travel to the Arctic, those who visit the San Diego Zoo will have a chance to have an eco-adventure of their own. At Polar Bear Plunge, the ability to interact with these amazing creatures -- through a moveable wall, in the cockpit of a research helicopter, by popping heads through a hole in the ice, and exploring a snow den -- among other hands-on activities, will show us why it is so important to turn off the lights, turn down the air-conditioner, walk and ride a bike instead of a car; in short, re-duce, re-use and re-cycle.
Looking for a great getaway over spring break? Why not plan a trip to the fabulous San Diego Zoo, which inspires and educates, as well as entertains families so well. If not this time, check out some other ideas below.
Stay in touch, and wherever you're off to, safe there, safe home,
