Travel Trends 2005: US Vacations For Summer Looking Sunny
In a spring 2005 poll from the Travel Industry Association of America, Americans are expected to take 281 million person-trips of at least 50 miles from home this season, up 1.2% from one year ago.
In another noted trend, online agencies have begun offering vacation condos and furnished units that emulate the space and privacy families enjoy at home. You can check out Resort Quest which manages vacation properties for owners who rent them out when they are vacant, or services such as VacationSpot.com. According to a spokesperson, "The vacation rental business is currently a $30 billion dollar a year growth industry that is a cost effective and convenient way for families and groups to travel together."
Ok, so where is everyone going? At VacationSpot, the top vacation rental destinations for 2005 include Atlantic City, New Jersey; Myrtle Beach, North Carolina; Florida; Hawaii; Caribbean; Mexico; and Colorado ski country, reflecting the predominence of the drive-to market in vacation rentals.
At Carlson Wagonlit, one of the country's largest travel agency networks, agents were asked to forecast client's most popular destinations.
